À l’origine d’une dialectique nouvelle

Résumé

Just as he narrates the Judea takeover by Rome in 6 a.d., Josephus mentions the revolt of Judas the Galilean. The teacher would have considered the census as an offense against divine law. This census is the prelude to the establishment of the Roman tax, it therefore is antagonistic to the temple tax. In contesting one without refusing the other, Judas is the origin of a dialectic between the tribute and the offering, that is to say between the tax that expresses the power of God over Israel and the one that opposes it.
